Learning to speak Italian is beneficial as a self improvement goal. Not only will you become bilingual if you gain fluency in Italian but you will get a new perspective on many aspects of life. For instance, you will understand all the cultural references that your own culture has taken from the Italian culture.

Bluntly, you will be more interesting as you will have some general knowledge that not everyone can claim to have. This can make you more popular in social situation which is a nice thing to have. Even if being more interesting or popular is not your ultimate goal, learning to speak Italian can also help your career or job prospects. The first thing you want to establish is how quickly you want to become fluent. Most people answer immediately or in 3 months or something like that. But you have to take a realistic look at your lifestyle before you make a statement like that.
